Reviews for Zeus - Master of Olympus in Strategy for PC-Personal Computer ( PC ) :

General/Summary:

Zeus is the latest and, according to many, best installment in Sierra/Impressions' city building series. In an about-face for the series, this game is easier, more user-friendly, and less complex than its predecessor, Pharaoh. That's not to say that hardcore city building fanatics should stay away; it's just a different cup of coffee and, regardless of how it compares to older titles, the changes are mostly welcome.

Everywhere in the game, the more lighthearted approach is evident. Mission briefings are littered with bad puns. Citizens have a hatful of cheesy one liners that they utter at random. Gods walk the streets. The missions (they don't even call them missions this time; they're "adventures" subdivided into "episodes") are shorter and generally easier than in the other games in the series.

What it adds up to is a city builder that you can play without a scowl on your face. It's not that it isn't challenging; it's just that it can pull off challenging without frustrating. A feat worthy of high marks. This is one superb game

Gameplay:

It has a basic interface. The engine is largely based on Pharoah and Caesar. The control is seperated by a few buttons. Housing, mithology, culture ect. The tutorial is very good to understand and memorize the interface. The task is the same: Build a city, enlarge it, try to keep people happy. But additional mithycal elements prevent the game from being an ordinary city building game. You can see Zeus, Aphrodit and many more gods walking around and demanding a sanctuary for them. Their role in the game is very important. They sometimes help you but rarely. There are also heroes. You need them when a monster attacks your city but you must give them the things they want. Balances in the game are very well calculated. Culture is very important too.
More alternatives in an adventure. You can play an adventura again and again.
In conclusion I must say that this is a superb game. Everybody must try this game

Graphics:

The graphics are, despite the "cartoony" look at first, very original and humourous - they'll make you laugh a lot - or at least they made me.

There is a lot to detail in graphics, too. Every single sprite, building, landscape has ever so many details. Every line on a piece of wood, armour, olive oil jar... it's a very nice and thrilling thing to see.

Sound:

This game has some of the best sound in any strategy game that I’ve ever played. The music is perfectly composed to be enjoyed in the background. I normally turn the music off because it get too repetitive and distracting but the music in Zeus is so subtle and beautiful that I almost forget that it even there; it just blends so well into the game. Each mission starts off with a bit of narration that that sets the scene and all of these were very enjoyable to listen to; the narrator had a great sense of character and a terrific delivery. But the highpoint of the game has to be the walkers’ voices. Every single citizen has it’s own unique voice and they all have a lot to say! Clicking on them at any point of the game provides you will a comment about how you are running the city; and almost all of them are hilarious! You can tell that Impressions was having a lot of fun when they were coming up with walker speech. It just makes you want to click on every citizen just to see what he or she has to say!
