Reviews for GP 500 in Driving for PC-Personal Computer ( PC ) :

General/Summary:

I have almost all of the motorcycle racing games out there. MotoRacer I & II, Manx TT, Redline Racer, Honda Castro Superbike, and World Superbike Championship (SBK). GP500 beats em all in terms of gameplay and graphics - except SBK. I enjoy racing Sim (especially motorcycle racing sims), because I'm a motorcycle rider and I know how they should work.
My biggiest GRIPE I have with GP500 is the replay. On GP500 you can only replay the last lap you done. And when you try to save the replay it takes up an outrageous amount of disk space. SBK can save the entire race and it takes up hardly any space. I hope GP500 will have a fix for this in the future. I love to watch a race from start-finish. Just like watching a real race.
Besides some minor glitches and complaint, all in all, I love this game. Where else can you race Doohan, Biaggi, KRJR, etc. And I love the lil extra like racing with a moped or the BeemTeam race bikes.
You probably guess it, I'm a motorcycle racing fanatic and I do enjoy a good race sim on a rainy day when I can't go out and ride the real thing, my R6.
So go out and buy this game, you won't be disappointed.

Gameplay:

Like other real gamer reviewers, I too feel GP500's learning curve is a bit steeper compared to the other motorcycle racing sims. I know that racing a GP500 bike is hard and this game is trying to be realistic on it's modeling, but come on...on SBK I can at least be competitive right out of the box. I have younger kids who want to play games on my computer and if I have a hard time on the easiest setting I can't imagine how they would do let alone enjoy it as much as I do.
GP500 bike physics is really good and appears to accurate. I love the rear end twitching and the front shocks compressing when driving in and out of a corner.
I do have one minor gripe. Sometimes when I'm in a hot race, I wish that AI bike could pick up their bike after a minor crash and continue the race. I feel I lost out when Doohan crashes out of the race and is unable to continue. When I know he could've/should've.

Graphics:

GP500 graphics on some things are better (rider/bike) than SBK.
I like both their animation, but SBK has a lil' more. SBK rider raises their fist and appears to be shouting at a rider he's made at. At the end of the race SBK rider seems to be congratulating each other like they do in the real races and the stand on the bikes and sometimes do wheelies. GP500 riders sometimes start kicking their legs out while rounding a corner, which appears to be cartoonish.

Sound:

The sound is a bit weak, especially compared with SBK. I know 2 stroke is a loud pitch whiny sound, but GP500 I have to raise my volume to hear anything good. I heard other comment the same thing sounds more like a 50cc than a 500cc. I am currently experiencing a sound problem. I have a Diamond Monster Sound Card and during play sometime it starts cutting out and sometime the sound disappears. I loaded the latest DirectX, even loaded version 7. This is the only game I'm experiencing any sound problem.
